(Some states have different eligibility requirements.)

DSCC is a sponsor of the Institute for Parents of Preschool Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. It is a six day event, beginning the second Sunday of June in Jacksonville at the Illinois School for the Deaf campus. Participants are infants and toddlers from birth to age 5 years who have a moderate to profound bilateral hearing loss and their parents. For further information and application forms, please contact your local Division of Specialized Care for Children at (800) 779-0889.

DSCC offers scholarship money to parents who attend in the amount of $30 per day. This money is mailed to the families after the Institute ends. The purpose of the money is to offset the costs of families having to miss work, pay for day care for other children, etc. A sibling program is available so a limited number of siblings under the age of 8 can attend. This is to make the Institute more accessible to families.

IDHS Division of Developmental Disabilities has launched a new website and a toll-free number, 1-888-DDPLANS to help individuals with developmental disabilities and their families get the information and support they need and to link them to the local Coordination agency in their area.  Callers will have an option to be automatically connected to their local Coordination agency during normal business hours.  Individuals and families must contact their local Coordination agency in order to complete the PUNS assessment for services.
