About Our Staff

The South Cook County Regional Office staff are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Professional and Support staff work together as a team to provide care coordination for eligible children. Team members include Nurses, Social Workers, Speech and Hearing professionals and program consultant aides (PCA). A Program Services Manager (PSM) supervises the Regional office team. The office is located at:

Did You Know?

CREATING AVENUES for PARENT PARTNERSHIP
{CAPP}

A program designed to help parent of children with epilepsy that also have significant learning problems.

To Qualify for this educational program, your child must:

  • have epilepsy
  • be between 8 and 16 years old
  • had a least one seizure within the last year
  • be at least 2 grades behind in school work or have  
    been held back at least one year

CAPP involves a one-day educational program and 3 follow-up sessions.  At the one-day
program, parents will:

  • learn about epilepsy
  • learn about goal setting & problem solving so as to
    deal effectively with schools & health care organizations
  • work & share with other parent in similar circumstances

A $75.00 payment is offered for attendance at the 1-day program, with further payment further payment upon completion of questionnaires and follow-up sessions.

NEED HELP PAYING FOR HEALTHCARE SERVICES

Apply for a grant available from United Healthcare Children’s Foundation.  Parents and caretakers can apply for grants up to $ 5,000 for healthcare services that will help improve children’s health and quality of life.  Examples include speech therapy, physical therapy, psychotherapy sessions, medical equipment, braces, hearing aids, eyeglasses, orthodontia and dental treatments.  Requirements:  Any child 16 years old or younger, needing financial assistance.  The family must meet economic guidelines, reside in the United States, and be covered by a commercial health insurance plan.

Institute for Parents of Preschool Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing(PSDI).

What is it all about:  It's a one-week program for parents of children (up to age 5) who have significant hearing loss learn about their child's individual strengths & needs.  Parents get to meet other parents in the same situation.

Where & When:  The institute is located in Jacksonville, IL and is held in June.

  DSCC HERO

Kevin Ehmen, an 11-year old DSCC client, is a HERO.  In October, 2007, he observed his mother falling while suffering a seizure.  He didn't panic but called 911.  "He saved my life," reports his mother.
