DSCC Employment - Job Descriptions

The University of Illinois at Chicago-Division of Specialized Care for Children is accepting applications for future openings in the following positions:

Professional Positions

Nursing, Medical Social and Speech and Hearing Consultants work as a team within a regional office to arrange and coordinate children's health services. Care coordination duties include eligibility determination, assessing client needs, development and implementation of an individual service plan, making and following-up on referrals, and transition and discharge planning for eligible children and their families.

  • Nursing Consultant
    Licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Illinois, a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of public health or specialized nursing experience are required.

    If an Illinois resident is licensed as a professional nurse in a state other than Illinois the applicant must meet the criteria established by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to obtain the proper licensure within five (5) months of the date of appointment.

  • Speech and Hearing Consultant
    Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, or Communication Disorders. Two (2) years of experience planning and developing speech and hearing programs and that included one year of clinical practice (clinical fellowship year).
  • Medical Social Consultant
    A Master of Science degree in Social Work is a requirement of the position. The applicant must also possess three years of full-time experience beyond their MSW, with at least one year in a medical or clinical setting, and one year in a consultative or supervisory capacity.

Paraprofessional Positions

Social Work Aides provide support services in each regional office. They assist the professional staff to provide high quality services to children with special health care needs and their families.

  • Social Work Aides
    Work experience in the social service field and/or college credits which included courses in social or behavioral sciences. Other qualifications include: working knowledge of services provided by various social service agencies, skill in interviewing clients/families to determine their physical and social needs, ability to obtain services necessary to meet client needs, ability to organize, prepare and maintain records, reports, files and correspondence, ability to work as a team with other members of the care coordination staff, and knowledge and experience with computers and word processing software.

  • Social Work Aide – Bilingual Specialty Factor
    Ability to translate both verbally and in writing, from English to Spanish and Spanish to English as well as work experience in the social service field and/or college credits which included courses in social or behavioral sciences. Other qualifications include: working knowledge of services provided by various social service agencies, skill in interviewing clients/families to determine their physical and social needs, ability to obtain services necessary to meet client needs, ability to organize, prepare and maintain records, reports, files and correspondence, ability to work as a team with other members of the care coordination staff, and knowledge and experience with computers and word processing software.
